Laboratory Services
Solutient Technologies offers a broad range of chemical and radiochemical analytical services in support of licensed facilities, radioactive waste management programs, decontamination and decommissioning projects, and facilities dealing with Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM).
-
Some of our analytical capabilities include:
Gamma spectroscopy; both laboratory and field capabilities
Gross alpha and gross beta (wipe/smear counting)
Alpha spectroscopy for radium, uranium, thorium, plutonium and others
Radon and radium measurements in support of NORM program
-
Solutient Technologies has developed a mobile laboratory for utilization at job sites in support of facility decontamination and decommissioning program activities. This mobile laboratory is capable of performing gamma spectroscopy analysis of soils and waste to provide real-time results to direct the decontamination or remediation efforts. This greatly reduces the project cost by maximizing equipment and personnel efficiencies, eliminating intermittent mobilizations, and accelerating the project timeline. Ask us how we can reduce your project costs.
The split works well if you want the mobile lab to stand out as a differentiator, it's the more compelling sales content, and burying it under a generic "Analytical Services" header hides it. Keep it as one section if the page is already header-heavy.
Staff Augmentation
Every decommissioning, remediation, and compliance project brings a different mix of technical demands. Solutient Technologies provides the surveys, instrumentation, laboratory analysis, and qualified personnel to meet them — individually or as a complete program.
-
Solutient Technologies recognizes that your goal is to handle staffing requirements with your existing talent. However, staff augmentation is an effective outsourcing strategy which allows for quickly staffing a project when you have limited resources, expertise or time in the schedule.
Certain projects may require specific contract personnel to supplement an organization's EH&S staff to meet specific technical or operational requirements. Other times, an entire team may be required to complete a complex, time-critical project. Either way, Solutient can provide professional, highly skilled personnel to support or manage all phases of your next project.
Solutient Technologies provides various professional services on a time and material basis, or on a fixed price contract basis, depending on the project requirements.
-
Solutient Technologies provides quality remediation and decontamination technicians, and equipment operators skilled in the use of most radiological instrumentation and operation of most decontamination equipment. All technicians receive continuing training in hazardous materials management (HAZWOPER), radiological safety, respirator use and maintenance, confined space entry procedures, forklift operations, and other OSHA related training.
Oil and Gas NORM/TENORM Management
Naturally occurring radioactive material turns up in more industries than most operators expect — and once an industrial process concentrates it, the regulatory picture changes entirely. Solutient Technologies helps you identify what you have, understand which rules apply, and manage it in a way that limits liability and controls cost.
-
Naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) is comprised of uranium, radium and radon which are dissolved in very low concentrations during normal reactions between water and rock or soil. While the concentration of NORM in most natural substances is quite low, higher concentrations may be present in by-product waste streams as industrial practices concentrate materials. A common example includes calcium scale precipitated from oil recovery brine or mineral-rich groundwater.
NORM Affected Industries
Minerals and mining
Mineral sands
Thorium industry (gas mantles, welding rods)
Oil and gas production
Geothermal energy
Electricity production
Recycling and decommissioning
-
When an industrial process leads to the concentrating of NORM materials it is reclassified as Technologically Enhanced NORM (TENORM) and the regulations for handling and disposing of the material changes. EPA is concerned about TENORM for three reasons:
There is potential to cause elevated exposure to radiation.
The lack of understanding of TENORM materials versus NORM.
Industries generating these materials need additional guidance to help manage and dispose of them in the proper ways that protect people and the environment.
Solutient Technologies understands these differences and can assist in the proper management of TENORM materials.
-
Solutient Technologies can assist you with developing a strategy for managing your NORM-containing material based on our extensive experience in the field of radiation protection and management of radioactive materials.
Regulations governing the management of NORM-containing wastes have been evolving at the state level and as a result, most companies need assistance understanding the regulations and negotiating with the regulators. Solutient can develop and manage a program for you whether it involves employee protection, waste management, transportation and disposal, or regulatory advice.
Our goal is to provide knowledgeable assistance to you so that you can limit your liability and control your costs.
